The importance of bodywork
As some of you may know, I am a Licensed Massage Therapist. I really believe that through therapeutic bodywork we can address most issues that we may have in this life.
As we grow and get older we forget how to process issues effectively. We are naturally born with built in defense mechanisms. We think our way out of processing and feeling experiences.
A lot of times we see the process take over in traumatic situations such as a car accident, we will see the victims go into shock. But what about the times when our nervous system doesn’t take over. We tend to rationalize our way out of dealing with situations the way nature intended.
When we rationalize and mentalize our situations we subdue the natural coping process and cover up the reaction and say we have dealt with it and are fine. As we go through our day to day these issues burrow into our system physically, emotionally, and mentally. After a while people start to experience issues. whether it is trouble sleeping or focusing. They may start to have chronic pain in their body and it may not be in the place where the trauma occurred. Then as we always do, they will ignore it or make excuses for the issues.
If we get regular bodywork, whether it is massage, cranio-sacral, chiropractics, Energy work, etc. It will allow your body to process the things that you subdue and push down. This includes the day to day activity of work and parenting, relationships, activities.
When we employee a facilitator who can allow us to release the tensions within our bodies, people who are trained professionally to handle the experience that others will release. This will give us freedom to live our life to the fullest. We will not have the traumas in life holding us back .
Massage therapy has been proven to increase muscle activity and stave off muscles from stiffening up. Patients can actually keep some muscle tone in their body while in a comma if they are receiving regular massage.
In my own experience I have seen it help in cancer treatment and other chronic illnesses.
If you have not experienced a massage take the time to go and try it out. Let your Therapist know that it is your first experience and they will talk you through it. It will be at your comfort level.
post back if you have experienced a massage or let me know how your initial experience was.
